Aussiedoodle FAQS
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the sires and dams health tested?
Yes! All of the sires and dams, used in our program, have their health testing completed through Embark with any extra testing they may need done through UC Davis and Animal Genetics. This is done to make sure they don't carry any breed related health conditions that could affect their puppies in the future. Also, to make sure our sires and dams are in their best shape, we test them for hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and test their eyes as well. These tests are physical exams certified through the OFA(Orthopedic Foundation for Animal) and you can find links to these testing results under each dogs profile.

How big will the puppies be fully grown?
We breed standard Aussiedoodles and our parent dogs range from 40-55lbs. Puppies can be anywhere between the parents weight. Males typically being on the larger side while females typically on the smaller side. **Although not often, puppies can be up to ~10lbs larger or smaller then parents weights.

What kind of temperaments do Aussiedoodles have?
Aussiedoodles are a family friendly breed that form strong bonds with their people. They are a loving and loyal breed that are as smart as a whip. You get a dog that loves to be active but is also happy to just be with you.
Do Aussiedoodles shed?
There is no such thing as a true non-shedding dog. This is a myth. All dogs shed, even poodles, but the frequency in which they shed can vary. Aussiedoodles have the possibility to inherit a gene from their poodle side, referred to as furnishings, that drastically reduces amount they shed. Because this is a gene that can be tested for, we check that our breeding dogs have it. If at any point we doubt one of our puppies has inherited a furnishing gene, we will test them to be certain and notify any potential buyers of the possibility of higher shedding than expected.

Are they Hypoallergenic?
There has always seemed to be some confusion on the meaning of 'hypoallergenic'. If you look up the definition of the word it says 'relatively unlikely' to cause an allergic reaction'. So while Aussiedoodle can be considered hypoallergenic, this does not mean there is no chance of a reaction if you are allergic to dogs. If allergies are a concern for your household, please contact us before placing an reservation fee.
Are their coats high maintenance?
Aussiedoodle coats can be considered high maintenance as they need to be brushed multiple times a week, especially after outdoor activities. They should be fully groomed every 6-8 weeks starting as soon as possible. For more information on grooming, please refer to our Grooming section.

Do you dock tails and/or remove dew claws?
No. Tail docking is meant to be done for working purposes on Australian Shepherds and Poodles. Docking is also listed as a requirement by the AKC(American Kennel Club) to meet the breed standard for both breeds. Because Aussiedoodles are a mixed breed and don't have a breed standard to abide by, docking would be for completely cosmetic reasons. If there ever are any of our puppies with short tails, it would be because of the natural bob tails sometimes seen in Australian Shepherds.
No. Dew claws are useful for gripping bones and digging and injuries to the claw are rare.

What vaccinations are done on puppies before they go home?
Puppies will receive all vaccinations recommended by our vet, and will have vaccinations listed in their Go Home packs, as well as when they should go in for their next set. They will be dewormed every 2 weeks up until their go home date at 8 weeks of age.
